Biografía

My research is mainly focused on the response of biological systems under classical mechanical tests using microneedles and microplates as force transducers to scope elastic, viscoelastic and active response of neurites and tip growing cells. We also have open a new branch at the BioPhysics laboratory at the Universidad de Santiago, investigating the mechanical behavior of Giant Bi-Layer Vesicles using pressure probes and magnetic tweezers techniques and micro patterning surfaces as well on adhesion problems related with biological coatings.We are also interested in physical models to understand more complex scenarios as the Forces exerted by cells over soft substrates, Molecular motor activity in quasi one-dimensional cells and Rubber elasticity to mimic Tip Growth Morphogenesis.In parallel, we had develop techniques to address these tasks, such as micro mechanics, interferometrical microscopy, micro indentation among others.
