YEMS: Calling for applications for postdoctoral positions

The Millennium Nucleus on Young Exoplanets and their Moons (YEMS) is calling for applications for postdoctoral positions with a duration of two years, with a possibility of extension and sponsorship for other fellowships. YEMS scientific objectives involve detecting and characterizing young exoplanets (via ALMA kinematics and dust substructures) and exomoons (via direct-imaging). YEMS is an astronomy-informatics multidisciplinary effort, born to provide a stage in which young researchers can fully develop their potential while producing great science.

We are interested in candidates with expertise in protoplanetary disks, exoplanetary science, and/or data science applied to astrophysics, but all applicants with a strong background in relevant areas of theoretical and/or observational astrophysics are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have or expect to be awarded a PhD before taking the position. The positions are available from March 2022 and will remain open until they are filled.

Our team is composed of astronomers Seba Pérez (USACH/CIRAS), Alice Zurlo and Lucas Cieza (UDP), and Simon Casassus (UCH), and astroinformatics engineers experts on AI/ML/HPC Guillermo Cabrera-Vives (UDEC) and Fernando Rannou (USACH).  Successful applicants will join YEMS at one of these institutions and work in direct collaboration with at least two team members.

Chile hosts a large and vibrant community working on planetary science, with more than 30 astronomers working on this field in Santiago alone. While at YEMS, successful candidates will be eligible for the access to the 10% of observing time at all telescopes in Chile, including ALMA, VLT, Gemini South, Magellan, as well as future facilities such as E-ELT, LSST, GMT, and CTA. YEMS members are currently leading and are involved in numerous projects, including ALMA and VLT/SPHERE observations of protoplanetary disks, IR and submillimeter laboratory measurements of meteorites and Cosmic Dust, and exoplanets characterization and high-contrast imaging in general.

Applications should be submitted via email.  Please provide a CV, a list of publications, a research interests statement (max 3 pages), and the contact details of 2 referees.  Applications will be reviewed starting on January 27th, 2022.
